In 2010, New Delhi hosted the third largest multi-sporting event in the world, the Commonwealth.
In the backdrop of the Games, WEC-IMC conducted a Study on the development strategy for the Commonwealth Games to document investments in stocks, buildings, infrastructure and services. |

The study also sought to highlight the efforts in executing plans in an environment friendly manner and with a focus on long term sustainability of the infrastructure so created adding to sustainable growth of the City of Delhi. This was also seen as an opportunity to showcase the efforts of city to the world community.
The study group had representation from broad spectrum of stakeholders as is evident from the members of the study team. Key inputs were contributed by the study team members. WEC-IMC is grateful to all the team members for their valuable inputs and suggestions. The study report was released by Mr. Rakesh Mehta, Chief Secretary, National Capital Territory of Delhi, on 20th August, 2010 at New Delhi.
Mr. Mehta appreciated the report and desired that WEC-IMC should continue the work and work on a study for Carbon Neutral Delhi.
As suggested by Mr. Mehta, WEC-IMC has launched a study “Towards Carbon Neutral Delhi”. WEC-IMC seeks support of all the stakeholders for the success of the study. WEC-IMC Secretariat may be contacted for further details about the study and for being a part of the study team. A new link for the study has been created under “Current Studies”

| Terms of reference |
In 2010, New Delhi played host to the XIX Commonwealth Games. Thousands of visitors were expected to be in India and particularly in Delhi during the period. Such sporting events offer a great opportunity for urban renewal and to transform the landscape of the city. Delhi also planned to undertake a major overhaul of its urban infrastructure as well as its sporting facilities. The event had the potential of transforming many parts and sectors of the city in big way, mainly because the development was to be integrated with the long term Master Plan of Delhi.
The study sought to highlight the steps taken in the direction sustainable development and integration of the same with Master Plan. Steps taken for security and reliability of energy supply were also to be identified and documented. Thrust for minimizing energy consumption through transport systems and traffic regulation, and passive and active interventions for energy efficiency in buildings was to be studied and highlighted.
