About Study
World Energy Council conducted a study, initially called as “Energy for Mega Cities”, which was later renamed as “Energy and Urban Innovation” for the basic reason that there are lessons to be learnt from cities which may not strictly fall under the definition of Mega Cities.

This study examined the requirements to meet demand for energy and the delivery of secure and reliable energy services in the growing number of very large cities around the world. The objective was to develop concepts of secure energy supply and distribution based on technologies under development, including the transport sector, to ensure a sustainable future.

The study report was released during the World Energy Congress 2010 held at Montreal in Canada from 12th to 16th September 2010.

Annexes to the report also host the case studies used in the report, in particular, the city case studies. The following cities were included in the report-
  • Cape Town
  • Delhi
  • London/Paris
  • Mexico City
  • San Fransisco
  • Shanghai
  • Tokyo
  • Toronto
The Delhi case study was prepared with contributions from concerned stakeholders. The report forms an integral part of the WEC report “Energy and Urban Innovation”
